After nearly 13 years after moving in, the kitchen finally gets tackled. New oven, dishwasher and cooktop were purchased mid December as a way of securing commitment of our good selves to the effort.
Now it is April and we are at a point of leaving the kitchen as it is ...
We reused the old Ikea carcasses and doors, but put in new shelving and glass. Ikea kitchens today are not quite like Ikea 35 years ago when real wood was used. Note that the shelving and the benchtop were made from recycled Blackbutt floor boards. We included lots more drawers and soft closing hardware (from Ikea, actually made in Austria!). Renovating, reusing and repurposing is always very labour intensive with lots of metal and physical elbow grease but the outcomes can be magnificent. It was a huge job, and Adam the carpenter excelled with his craftsmanship.

and the new, with the wet area all stainless. New taps and faucet but we kept the old sink;

Where the old fridge used to be; cutlery drawers right beside the dishwasher and useful benchspace.
The new cooktop, actually Australian made.
Another view of the shelving.
A few photos of the actual works;
Some new plumbing and associated masonary works to allow for cold water only (bottom tap) from the mains, but hot from the tank at the sink.

The level of gutting involved, Suz taking a breather.

We also had Maureen come over to stay a few nights, the spare room not a few hours before she turned up . . .
