The view from our bedroom.

Once again, we begin the day along a quiet road up a quiet valley. Photo by Herbert.

Up, up beyond the tree line . . .

Making it to the highest point of the day, photo by Volker. Somewhat higher than where the road passes. Below, the downhill that awaits us.

And the scree . . . this was the scariest part of the trip. Not clear in the photo are some large rocks protruding into the path at the beginning of the steep part of this descent.

At some point we pass back into Switzerland. We descend through a forest, I realise that the low pressure in my rear tyre really is a flat which is, eventually, fixed by inserting a road tube.

We reach the lake Cancano and this Swiss eating house, ordinary food but we are tired . . .

Another climb, more resting.

At times, it threaten to rain but it was only ever light. Photo by Nils.

After a nasty steep gravel road, the last summit and a view.

The view of our upcoming downhill. Apparently the mountainside drops down quite steeply, but who is looking?

Rockfalls mean the mountain landscape changes, and new routes need to be put in. Photo by Kevin.

Arriving at Lake Livigno and the trail has become quite busy with other bikers coming the over way. We skirt around the lake and onto a sealed cycleway into Livigno, where the hotel is in the middle of town. This is the first time our accommodation for the night is located close to others. I buy the correct sized tube at a local bikeshop. We walk to a nearby resturant for dinner and Italian it is.
